The two most often asked question is either I "think" I have
a virus, or I think my computer is broke it runs so slow!

Viruses:
It's one of the most disrupting and fatal flaws about the Internet. Viruses or Trojan Horses, Phishing,
Pharming scams and lets not leave out just plain old SPYWARE!

I am going to share some of my knowledge about all of them with you along with some free links and
ways to protect yourself from them, Ritual Madness has a network in our offices, along with lots of

One of my favorite places to use on the net is Panda Software's Online Active Scan. I prefer to utilize
multiple online scanners to either confirm I do have a virus or trojan on my machines. The great
thing about online scanners is that, while scanning for bugs and such, it also uses an active X control
to access a database of viruses and an infected machine cannot modify itself or trash the virus
scanners software. So what you say? What if I told you there are viruses created everyday who's
primary function is to first escape detection, then corrupt files and spread!

One of the smartest things you can do is assess your network or computer at home on it's
vulnerability on the Internet can be found at Steve Gibson's site GRC.com Once you get there, you'll
want to read and find out who and what Steve does, but more importantly, Steve gives away
programs that will help you in your war against these annoying critters.
Shields Up! is a great way to check and see just how vulnerable you are. Also he offers leak test as
another way to find out if your machine is talking to other machines, people or the Internet without
your permission.

These sites and tools are all available to
scan your PC for FREE (yes no cost and
free) I do recommend that you at least
employ one or two of the above tools on
your PC to keep it clean and safe to surf.
Also at the same time I will tell you if you
choose to "evaluate" more than one of the
above packages, do NOT run them at the
same time. You can cause things such as
"False Positive" scan results and even if
you aren't actively running them, their
signature or fingerprint file of virus and
Trojan characteristics may appear to the
scanner as a virus when in fact it is only
the pattern files or signatures to find the
Virus or Trojan. Popups, Spyware and the
like are all annoying things that you don't
need and can get rid of in a fairly
consistent manner. Novice user to expert
we all can use the help sometimes, if your
having a problem you might find our
